Ljubljana - Slovenia reported 2,305 new cases of coronavirus for Wednesday, up by some 26% on the same day a week ago in what is the sixth consecutive day that has seen a week-on-week increase in infections.

As a result the 7-day average of new daily cases rose by 66 to 1,857. The 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 people was still down, but only by three, standing at 1,168, shows data by the National Institute of Public Health.

The institute estimates that 24,694 people are currently actively infected, down by 38 on the day before.

Hospitalisations due to Covid-19 continued to decrease, totalling 249 this morning, down by 14, and the number of Covid patients requiring intensive care dropped by two to 74, government data shows.

Another six people infected with coronavirus died yesterday.

The latest infections were picked from 1,865 PCR tests and 11,943 rapid antigen tests, with both figures rising in daily comparison.
