Ljubljana - The Ljubljana city has signed with the government a protocol on continuation of infrastructure projects and an agreement on development of railway stations in the capital. A total of 11 projects have been identified, including construction of underpasses under railway lines.

The protocol and agreement, signed on Monday by Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Janković and Infrastructure Minister Jernej Vrtovec, also specify the share of financing by the state and the Ljubljana municipality.

The value of the planned projects and the timeline of the construction is not defined, as it depends on project engineering and public tenders, said Vrtovec, while noting that the state would earmark "tens of millions of euros".

The projects include underpasses for vehicles and pedestrians under railway lines, with one of the most important ones being construction of a new underpass on Dunajska Road close to the main railway station.

This will effectively launch the construction of Emonika, a new main railway and bus terminal in the capital, the minister said, announcing that the first preparatory work for the mega project would begin next month.

The underpass under railway line in Šmartinska Road is planned to be widened and further developed in what Janković described as the most pressing issue in terms of road congestion in the capital.

The agreement also covers development of an underpass between Bratislavska Road in the BTC shopping district and Zaloška Road in the borough of Fužine, and several other underpasses, added Infrastructure Ministry State Secretary Aleš Mihelič.
