Revoz stops car production over semi-conductors
Novo Mesto - Revoz, the Slovenian subsidiary of French car maker Renault, was forced to halt production earlier this week over an irregular supply of electronic components for cars it manufactures in Novo Mesto, south-eastern Slovenia. Production is to resume next week, trade unionist Slavko Pungeršič told the STA on Wednesday.
The company is trying to find a long-term solution to the problem, which is all the information workers have for now, Pungeršič said.
He said that the irregular supply of electronic components allowed them to plan production for no more than two weeks.
As for fears that Renault could decide to close the Revoz factory, the unionist said that all options were possible.
The uncertainties in the supply of semiconductors forced Revoz to scale down production already last year.
After cutting production to one and a half shifts last November, the factory switched to one shift earlier this month, adjusting the number of workers, with around 450 to be laid off.
Revoz meanwhile said in a press release today: "We cannot provide any concrete information about future prospects because the current situation is very uncertain, mostly because of supply of semi-conductors and the global restructuring of the car industry."
Renault Group and Revoz are faced with big challenges in the supply of electronic parts, business is hampered while there is a lot of adapting and changes of production plans, the release said.
