Brdo pri Kranju - Voters unable to cast their vote in the 24 April general election in person due to Covid self-isolation will be able to vote at home or by mail, the National Electoral Commission decided on Thursday. They need to submit an application to vote at home by 20 April.

Voters who will be self-isolating on the day of the election due to coronavirus infection will have to submit an application for voting at home together with the proof of isolation with the district electoral commission of their permanent residence by midnight on 20 April at the latest, the commission announced.

At today's session, the commission also adopted instructions for district electoral commissions and electoral committees to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Polling stations will have to observe and enforce physical distancing of at least 1.5 metres, the use of protective masks, surgical or FFP2, hand disinfection, ventilation of the premises, individual entry of voters, and disinfection of pens. Floor markings will be placed at polling stations to indicate the direction of movement and the distance to be maintained.

The commission also discussed a proposal not to hold a polling station at the Slovenian Embassy in Moscow based on the Foreign Ministry's assessment that the conditions for that are not met and due to the suspension of postal services to Russia.

If the situation does not change soon, the commission will take a final decision on this matter at a correspondence meeting.

Deciding on the applications for election observation accreditation received so far, the commission approved the applications of 14 representatives of World Peace Volunteers, an international NGO based in Ghana.

Last week, it was decided that voters unable to cast their vote in the April election in person due to illness will be able to vote at home before an electoral committee provided that they submit a medical certificate with their application to vote at home. The deadline for this is also 20 April.
