Poklukar urges adaptation of Covid vaccination
Brussels - Health Minister Janez Poklukar urged the EU Commission on Tuesday to adapt the Covid vaccination strategy in agreement with vaccine producers to better reflect the current state of the pandemic.
Vaccine producers should pack the vaccine in single doses instead of the multi-dose vials currently on the market as a result of which a lot of vaccines end up being discarded.
They should also produce vaccines that will provide immunity against multiple variants of the virus, he said.
"If we are successful and achieve that, a different vaccination strategy can be expected in autumn," Poklukar said after a session of EU health ministers.
Another major issue is pre-agreed vaccine deliveries. With vaccination uptake hitting a ceiling, supplies are piling up.
Poklukar said supplies scheduled to be delivered this spring should be shifted to autumn.
