Maribor - The Golden Fox, the traditional women's Alpine Ski World Cup event organised in Maribor, is not in the first draft of the 2022/23 season calendar. This comes after the event was either cancelled or relocated to Kranjska Gora eight times in the last ten years due to lack of snow.

Announcing the decision of the International Ski Federation (FIS), the Ski Association of Slovenia said on Tuesday that its was in touch with the schedule makers, as "our priority is to keep the women's Alpine Ski World Cup competition in Slovenia."

The association noted that it had been informed by FIS secretary general Michel Vion this weekend at Planica that there was no intention of including the Golden Fox in the first draft of the calendar for the next World Cup season.

"The arguments for such an intention provided by Vion are the repeated relocations of the competition from Maribor to Kranjska Gora and even cancellations. Eight times in the last ten years," it added.

According to Vion, relocations bring too much uncertainty and logistical problems for the FIS, TV production and the teams of individual national federations that participate in the competition.

"In addition to promises, they would also like to specific technical solutions on the ground, which are not yet available," the association said.

What further complicates the schedule-making process is the ambition of the FIS to include more new venues in different countries, as this would promote Alpine skiing in new markets in Europe and in the world.

The association said that it was "aware that the current model is not sustainable", adding that investments in facilities for technical snow and a new model of management of the ski resort would be launched.
