Ljubljana - Stožice Arena in Ljubljana will host the finals of the men's and women's European volleyball champions league on 22 May, the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) announced on Wednesday.

The final matches of the 2021-22 CEV Champions League for men and women in Ljubljana come after the Slovenian capital hosted the under-23 women's European championship in 2017 and the semi-finals of the men's European championship in 2019.

The finalists in both categories are yet to be determined - in the women's competition, the reigning champions Imoco Volley of Italy await the winner of a semi-finals encounter between two Turkish clubs, VakifBank and Fenerbahce Opet Istanbul.

In the men's competition, the reigning champions ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle will face another Polish team, Jastrzebski Wegiel, in one semi-final, while the other semi-final pair are Italy's Trentino Itas and Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia.

"This unique event is coming to the capital of a nation that makes extraordinary results and breathes volleyball. I invite fans from all over Europe to Ljubljana to see the spectacle," said CEV president Aleksandar Boričić on the occasion.

Metod Ropret, the president of the Slovenian Volleyball Association, said that the decision was a recognition for the association as the organiser of major competitions, and that "volleyball fans will watch top-level volleyball" in Ljubljana.

Tickets for the two matches will be sold as of 8 April, when all finalists will be known.
