Slovenian diplomat killed in car accident in Banja Luka

Banja Luka/Ljubljana - Marjan Ristić, head of Slovenia's consular office in Banja Luka, was killed in a car accident which happened in this city in Bosnia-Herzegovina on Tuesday evening, the Slovenian Foreign Ministry confirmed a report by the Bosnian newspaper Nezavisne Novine. The ministry will fly a black flag on Wednesday to commemorate the diplomat.

Ristić, a 62-year-old Slovenian citizen, was hit while walking as a Golf car driven by Sergej Miljković, 23, drove on the pavement. The diplomat died on the spot, the ministry said as it provided more details after the Bosnian newspaper reported on the death earlier in the day.

"We are sad to announce that our long-time colleague, minister plenipotentiary, and head of the consular office in Banja Luka, Marjan Ristič, died yesterday in a car accident in Banja Luka," reads the ministry's statement.

The Banja Luka prosecutor's district office has ordered an investigation into the event, including a post-mortem, which will be carried out by the Republic of Srpska's Institute of Forensic Medicine.
