Slovenia pull out two draws in Qatar

Sport

Doha - The Slovenian men's football team played two friendly matches in Doha, Qatar, in recent days, drawing 1:1 against Croatia on Saturday and 0:0 against Qatar on Tuesday.

This was the third match ever between Slovenia and Qatar, who will host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, after the former team won in 2010 and the latter in 2015.

The home team had a few more chances yesterday in the first half, whereas Slovenia were closer to scoring in the second half, but both goalkeepers played a decisive role on several occasions.

On Saturday, Slovenia managed to pull out a draw in the 92nd minute after Croatia scored in the first half. Croatia's Andrej Kramarić and Slovenia's Jaka Bijol were the scorers.

What was the eleventh face-off between the two neighbouring countries did not offer much suspense or action. Slovenia have so far won only one game against Croatia and recorded four draws.

"It's true that we played two games without losing, but we didn't win either. We were playing against two opponents who will be in the World Cup though. (...) We played two matches at a high level, so I'm happy about that," Slovenia's head coach Matjaž Kek told sports channel Sportklub after the latest game, adding he was concerned about the team's midfield play and lack of creativity.

Slovenia will now face their next games in June when they will play Sweden at home, Serbia away, Norway away and Serbia at home in the UEFA Nations League B.
