Preventive recall in Slovenia over Kinder salmonella scare

Society

Ljubljana - After the Italian chocolate-maker Ferrero recalled several batches of its Kinder Surprise egg products after dozens of children across Europe fell ill with salmonella, a Slovenian distributor has recalled several batches of the Kinder Schoko Bons product as a preventive measure.

The distributor, Atlantic Trade, recalled the 125 gramme Kinder Schoko Bons product was on suspicion of salmonella presence, although none of the Kinder products present on the Slovenian market has tested positive and no consumer complaints have been received.

The product that was recalled had been sold by Lidl Slovenija. These are batches with serial numbers L005L03, L302R0, L313R03 and L307R03 with best before dates of 11, 16 and 22 June and 18 August 2022.

Lidl Slovenija pulled the products from its shelves with a view to strictly protecting customers. Customers can return the products to any Lidl store and will get a refund even if they do not present a receipt.

The salmonella poisoning is being looked into by European food safety and disease control authorities. Almost half of the 105 cases confirmed so far have been in the UK with children also affected in Germany, Belgium, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Sweden and Norway.
