Ljubljana - Reporter says in its latest editorial, as it comments on the election campaign, that Prime Minister Janez Janša is one of those unsympathetic politicians who has yet to show up in a televised debate as the campaign enters the last two weeks.

Analysing the campaign, the weekly says that "everything is getting really bizarre. Parties' platforms in the finale of the election campaign do not count much, as it is rhetorical skills, short catch phrases and performance what decides."

Genuine and direct contact with the electorate still comes first, and the more voters a candidate shakes hands with, the greater their chances of being elected - this is why they travel around Slovenia and even go door-to-door to address voters.

Reporter notes in this light that Prime Minister Janez Janša is nowhere to be found, and that he has to show up in a televised debate as the campaign enters the last two weeks.

Apparently, he is playing the card of "his majesty", who finds measuring up with his political competitors in front of an audience to be beneath his dignity.

The weekly adds that Janša is "an alienated politician who has given interviews only rarely in the last decade, and only to the media and journalists who are in his favour. He hasn't given it to Reporter since 2016."

"We asked him last time two years ago, but the 'did not have time'. We will not ask him this year," concludes the commentary headlined In His Majesty's Service.
