Murska Sobota - Ever since the war broke out in Ukraine, the Evangelical Church in Slovenia has been helping out Ukraine and its people who have found refuge in the north-eastern region of Pomurje. A charity concert will also be held in Murska Sobota on Easter Monday, with the funds raised going for integration of Ukrainian families.

Presenting the activities of the Evangelical Church on Thursday, Bishop Leon Novak thanked the church members for donating goods and money to enable the work and assistance to the refugees by the humanitarian organisation Podpornica.

The association operating under the Evangelical Church has delivered winter clothing to a collection centre in Slovakia, while the parish of Gornji Slaveči collected almost 400 kg of food and hygienic products and delivered it to an orphanage in Ukraine.

In cooperation with the Murska Sobota Police Department, food and hygienic products were also delivered to the war-torn zones, while some 75 children and mothers from Ukraine attended a sermon in Gornji Slaveči on Palm Sunday, Novak said.

On Wednesday, Podpornica delivered almost 500 first aid kits to a Ukrainian organisation specialised in the collection of medical equipment and medications.

Monday's charity concert will meanwhile raise funds for workshops for children, meetings of mothers and organisation of trips and camps so that the refugees from Ukraine would feel welcome in the region, the organisers said.
