Energy chamber proposes gas reserves

Economy

Ljubljana - The Chamber of Energy Industry says that despite the war in Ukraine, which it closely monitors, gas supply from Russia to Europe is stable and without interruptions, but the market remains volatile. This is the reason why it proposes that Slovenia should consider introducing a system of gas reserves, as its the case with oil derivatives.

"The war continues, while the transfer of natural gas from Russia to Europe is stable and uninterrupted, and in line with the nominations," the chamber's president Marjan Eberlinc said at a meeting of the board of directors on Wednesday.

Nevertheless, the market remains rather volatile, reacting strongly to all news related to Ukraine, the statement from the chamber says.

"The question thus arises whether Slovenia should start forming the concept of mandatory gas reserves modelled on oil derivatives," the chamber says.

The chamber's goal is for energy firms to operate in a stable manner and for long-term and reliable sources of energy to be secured for the domestic energy market.
