Ljubljana - A concert dubbed Subalpine Sevdah will be held at the Križanke open-air venue tonight to mark 30 years since the arrival of refugees from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Two acts merging Bosnian Sevdah music with jazz and rock rhythms will take the stage, along with Slovenian musician Vlado Kreslin and Sevdah star Damir Imamović.

The two bands, Dertum and Vali, were founded by Bosnian refugees in Slovenia and their musical friends. Both have played an important role in preserving Sevdah music and transforming it into a more modern form, called the new Sevdah.

After more than two decades, the original members of the two bands will come together again especially for the occasion, and will be joined by Kreslin, a big fan of Sevdah, who collaborates with Vali and Immanović, the star of tonight's concert.

Singers Vesna Andree Zaimović, Aida Čorbadžić, Asja Dupanović, Sanela Ajkić, Sandra Jelin Kadrić, and Maida Džinić will also take the stage along with guitarists Milan Bijeljac, Valerij Bartulović, Erol Hadžimušović, Admir Prguda, bass player Mladen Bijeljac and drummer Marjan Stanić.

In case of bad weather, the concert will be held at Cukrarna.

Subalpine Sevdah is a humorous name for the genre of music played the band tAman, the successor of Dertum, which was coined after one of its concerts in Ljubljana.

Tonight's concert is the culmination of a series of events held between April and July to mark the 30th anniversary of arrival of refugees from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Before the concert, a round table debate will be held at the Ljubljana City Museum on the response to refugee crises. Several other events will be held this week, including a debate on the new Sevdah music at Vodnikova Domačija and a photo exhibition at Galerija Fotografija bringing personal stories of refugees as seen by photographers of the weekly Mladina.
