Golfer Babnik third in Madrid Ladies Open
Madrid - Pia Babnik, Slovenia's best professional golfer, has notched up another podium, finishing third in the Ladies European Tour tournament in Madrid with a prize fund of EUR 300,000.
With the feat at the Comunidad de Madrid Ladies Open the 18-year-old follows up on her third place in the first major tournament of the season, the Chevron Championship in California, US.
After a study break, Babnik, currently 49th in global rankings, was back in action for the four-day tournament in Madrid, which was won by Spain's Ana Pelaez for her first European Tour victory. Swede Linnea Strom placed second.
Pelaez won the tournament at 23-under-par, six clear of the rest of the field. Babnik shared third with three other players at 15-under.
Babnik will give the next European Tour tournament in Thailand a miss to take part the Jabra Ladies Open by Lake Geneva from 19 to 21 May where she secured her first European Tour win last year.
