Koper - Port operator Luka Koper posted a net profit of EUR 16.5 million for the first quarter of 2022, up 91% over the same period in 2021. Sales revenue rose by 23% to EUR 70.9 million, and transshipped goods were up 18% to nearly 5.9 million tonnes, show unaudited results released on Friday.

Profit before income tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose by 61% to EUR 27.4 million, and pre-tax profit (EBIT) was up 101% to EUR 19.7 million.

Transshipment growth was achieved in all groups pf cargo. A total of 268,100 container units were transshipped, up 4%, and 176,900 vehicles, up 5%.

In March 2022, a new monthly container transshipment record was set of just under 100,000 container units.

"In the first quarter, Luka Koper Group did not suffer from the consequences of the war and has achieved good results," said the port operator, noting that the global situation in container shipping remained volatile.

The company spent EUR 6.3 million on investments, a decrease of 65% year-on-year. The group has started major investments in the container terminal area, which represent a new development cycle, reads a press release, which notes that the group has recently celebrated its 65th anniversary.
