The survey, commissioned by the pharmaceutical company Eli Lily, included over 1,000 Slovenians over 33 years of age, of which 60% were men and 40% women in stable relationships.

Igor Bizjak from the urology department of the Celje Hospital told the press on Tuesday that spontaneity played a significant role when it comes to sexual relations. The survey showed that 92% of respondents from Slovenia think of sex as a spontaneous activity.

The respondents were also asked about excuses they make when trying to avoid sexual relations. The findings showed that a fourth of respondents, mostly men, suspected their partners of making excuses.

Partner issues are most often the ones causing problems in sexual life, according to Irena Rahne Otorepec from the Ljubljana Psychiatric Clinic.

Some 15% of respondents find it too embarrassing to talk with their doctors about sexual difficulties, which indicates that the subject remains taboo, Rahne Otorepec added.

Even though the number of those discussing issues with their doctors has increased over the last years, the majority of Slovenians still seeks information on sexual problems on the internet.
