Ministry looking into report on the Koper-Divača rail project

Ljubljana - The Infrastructure Ministry said on Thursday it was looking into a report on the Koper-Divača rail project by the Court of Audit, which has found major flaws, "with utter seriousness and full responsibility". It said it would do all it can for the project to be run economically, efficiently and transparently.

The ministry said it would respond to the criticism in greater detail after carefully studying the document, which points to flaws in the manner the project had been prepared and run from 2015 until the end of June 2020.

The report finds that the government and the ministry in charge had been inefficient in preparing the basis for the construction and management of the project.

In the document released on Wednesday, the court also finds that the government and the Infrastructure Ministry had been only partly efficient in their oversight of the project and the Infrastructure Agency as the investor was also inefficient in the period under review (1 January 2015-21 July 2018).

Moreover, the company incorporated by the state to manage the project, 2TDK, was only partly efficient as the investor after taking over from the agency and until 30 June 2020, when the period under review ends.

The government is now required to apply remedial measures and report back to the Court of Audit, which has issued recommendations to the government and the Infrastructure Agency.

"The Infrastructure Ministry is dealing with the report by the Court of Audit with utter seriousness and full responsibility and will respond in more detail to the concrete remarks and flaws highlighted after studying the document in full and in great detail," the ministry said.

It added it would do everything in its power for the project to be managed economically, efficiently and transparently.
