Canoeist Savšek second in Krakow

Sport

Krakow - Slovenia's Olympic champion Benjamin Savšek placed second in Sunday's World Cup canoe slalom race in Poland, finishing only behind French Nicolas Gestin. He failed to win because he touched one of the gates, which earned him a two-second penalty.

Savšek was in the lead after the semi-final but eventually finished four hundredths of a second behind the winner, with Brit Adam Burgess placing third (+0.35).

Slovenian Luka Božič, who won the season opener on the river Vltava in Prague last Sunday, just missed the finals, placing 11th in the semi-final.

World Cup races will continue next weekend in Slovenia's Tacen.
