Culture

Ljubljana - The 13th edition of the Festival of Migrant Film will open on Monday evening in Ljubljana, offering 23 films from eleven countries screened in ten more towns around Slovenia until 23 June. The films and accompanying programme will present various aspects of migration, asylum and life of refugees.

Fourteen film-makers will be featured at the festival that will see films divided into six thematic categories.

The films and accompanying events will discuss the realities of those who were forced to leave their homes due to wars, human rights violations, poverty, corporate greed or other reasons.

The organiser, Slovenian Philanthropy, would like to see the festival warn about violence at borders, racism in Europe and women refugees.

Tonight, on World Refugee Day, the festival will open at the Kinodvor cinema with The Jungle, a 2021 documentary about a migrant camp created on a riverbank near Italy's Gorizia. The director Cristian Natoli will attend the screening.

The festival will close with Here We Move Here We Groove by Sergej Kreso, a documentary about a teenager who escaped the war in Yugoslavia, became a taxi driver in Berlin and then took over the club scene with a mix of western music and Balkan rhythms.
