FM Fajon tells Kuleba she will visit Kyiv soon

Luxembourg - Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon spoke over the telephone with her Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba on Tuesday assuring him of Slovenia's support for Ukraine's EU candidate status and the country's post-war reconstruction. She also announced that she will visit Kyiv soon, the Slovenian Foreign Ministry tweeted.

"Thank you for an open and fruitful discussion! Slovenia is committed to helping Ukrainian citizens to live in peace again as soon as possible. We will also help rebuild infrastructure and restore stability and hope," the minister tweeted.

Kuleba meanwhile tweeted that he thanked Fajon for her support for Ukraine's EU membership bid. "We agreed on the need to speed up the adoption of the EU's seventh package of sanctions against Russia. I invited Slovenia to participate in the reconstruction of one of Ukraine's war-torn regions", he wrote.

Fajon is in Luxembourg for a session of EU ministers in charge of EU affairs which will is part of preparations for the EU summit scheduled for Thursday and Friday.

The ministers have on their agenda a proposal to grant EU candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova, which Fajon supported as she arrived at the session.

Last week, Prime Minister Robert Golob confirmed Slovenia's support for Ukraine, its sovereignty and efforts for peace as he talked with his Ukrainian counterpart Denys Shmyhal.

The parliamentary foreign policy and EU affairs committees are currently in session in Ljubljana discussing Slovenia's position on developments in Ukraine with Golob before he attends his first EU summit in Brussels later this week.
