Ljubljana - Olimpija, Ljubljana's foremost football club, has terminated its cooperation with former Croatian superstar Robert Prosinečki who was hired as the head-coach in March this year. The club confirmed on Friday it is also parting ways with sporting director Mladen Rudonja.

"Rudonja was fired and Prosinečki quit," club president Adam Delius told the press on Friday, confirming reports from earlier this week that the pair had tried to secure more funding for reinforcements but had not been successful with the club leadership.

"I can understand that Prosinečki would like to have 24 national team players, but we need to keep in mind the other side, the money," said Delius.

Meanwhile, Rudonja was fired for disclosing classified information, leaking untrue information to the media and "selling the club to a third party", said club vice president Christian Dollinger.

Delius said it has not yet been decided who will take over in the interim while the club look for the new head-coach. He indicated that the club will take time before signing a new coach. "There are many good coaches available and we will not rush the decision."

Prosinečki, one of the best players in Croatia's football history who played for Olimpija for a brief time at the very end of his career in 2003, was announced in Ljubljana with a lot of pomp in March, when he signed a contract until the end of the 2023/24 season.

The team, which is the main rival of Maribor for the national title in most seasons, finished the last season in third place, which is also where it was when Prosinečki took over.
