European youth symphony orchestra to pay homage to Tartini

Portoro┼ż - The Portoro┼ż Auditorium will host tonight a concert by the European Spirit of Youth Orchestra (ESYO). Organized by the Italian community in Slovenia, the concert will commemorate the composer Giuseppe Tartini's 330th anniversary of birth.

After a two-year hiatus, 48 young musicians aged 13-19 from 18 European countries will play music by Tartini and Mozart under the baton of Igor Coretti Kuret. They will be joined by Italian violinist Giovanni Angeleri, recipient of the 1997 Paganini Award.

The concert is co-hosted by the Self-governing Italian community in Slovenia and the Giuseppe Tartini Italian community from Piran. It is part of the celebrations observing the composer's anniversary of birth.

Tartini (1692-1770), the most famous Piran resident, was christened on 8 April 1692 at St George's Church, which is considered his birthday. He studied in Padua and was the orchestral concertmaster in Saint Anthony Basilica. His most famous work is the Devil's Trill sonata for violin. He died in Padua on 26 February 1770.

The concert starting at 9pm is admission-free.
