The event will be addressed by Prime Minister Janez Janša and Yury Vorobyov, deputy chairman of the upper chamber of the Russian parliament, who arrived in Slovenia as part of a sizeable Russian delegation.

The senior guests at the ceremony will include a delegation of the Russian State Duma with Deputy Speaker Sergei Vladimirovich Zheleznyak, a delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church headed by Bishop Sava Voskresenky, and Slovenian Defence Minister Aleš Hojs.

After the ceremony, Prime Minister Janša, the honorary patron of the event, will meet for talks with Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Vorobyov in Kranjska Gora.

The ceremony is traditionally held in late July at the wooden chapel that was built by Russian POWs in 1916 after more than 300 of their comrades were killed in a snow slide while building the road over the Vršič mountain pass. The chapel is considered to be a symbol of friendship between Slovenia and Russia.
