Climbing star Garnbret continues her winning streak
Ljubljana/Briançon - Slovenia's best climber Janja Garnbret continues her winning streak as she won her fourth consecutive World Cup lead event in Briancon, France, on Saturday.
In the final the 23-year-old reached 42+ and beat South Korea's Seo Chae-hyun by a handhold. Natalia Grossman of the US was third.
Another Slovenian, Vita Lukan, the silver-medallist from the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics, placed seventh. In the men's competition, Slovenia's Luka Potočar was eighth. Other Slovenian competitors did not make it to the finals.
"I'm really happy with my climbing in the final today. I climbed without feelings of pressure or nervousness. Really, I was just climbing and it showed on the route. It also turned out that the climbing was easier than it looked on the preview," Garnbret, the incumbent Olympic champion, told the STA after what was the 36th win in her career and 22nd in lead.
Garnbret remains the favourite for the coming European Championships in Munich, Germany.
