Kranj - Gorenjska Banka, a Kranj-based bank, is joining several other Slovenian banks that will abolish negative interest rates on large deposits for legal persons on 1 August.

The bank said on Thursday that it had decided on the change in line with the European Central Bank's (ECB) decision to raise the key interest rate by 0.5 points.

Unlike some other banks, Gorenjska Banka had not opted to charge fees for large deposits by individuals, just as Sparkasse.

On 1 August, negative interest rates will also be abolished by NLB, NKBM and SKB Banka. Sparkasse will abolish them for legal entities and DBS for individuals.

Several other banks announced a while ago that they would abolish the fees on large deposits as soon as the ECB decided to abandon negative interest rates.
