Heavy traffic also expected for Monday

Ljubljana - Heavy holiday traffic continues to clog the main thoroughfares between Austria and Croatia on Sunday, with still more expected on Monday.

Traffic jams are reported on border crossings with Croatia, both to and from Slovenia, while motorists leaving for Austria through the Karavanke tunnel face a 5km traffic jam and those entering through the tunnel face congestion on the Austrian side.

Barbara Janežič of the Traffic Info Centre told the STA that congestions were expected to be the worst in the late morning and in the evening.

She warned that heavy traffic is also expected on Monday. "Almost ever Monday this summer long traffic jams have built up on the Primorska motorway and the Ljubljana bypass. Also because lorries are allowed back on the road after the weekend."

This weekend and the next two are the busiest weekends of the summer. "Unless there is an accident, traffic runs relatively smoothly. But in case of an accident, motorists must count with long traffic jams."
