Ljubljana - Slovenia's capital has got a new five-star hotel as Grand Plaza has just opened across the road from InterContinental Ljubljana to make the city's largest hotel yet.

Situated in the Bavarski Dvor area, the 22-storey hotel features 354 rooms, more than double the number in its counterpart across the street, which opened in August 2017 as Ljubljana's first five-star hotel.

Grand Plaza Hotel & Congress Center, as it is officially named according to a post on Facebook, is an investment of the Slovenian jeweller Zlatarna Celje.

The company bought the plot next to the Telekom Slovenije office tower from Austria's Erste Group Immorent in November 2016 before construction was launched in early 2019.

At the time, the value of the project was estimated at EUR 40 million. The investor has yielded little information since and failed to make an official announcement about the opening.

The opening as of 1 August was only announced on the hotel's website on Facebook. The hotel's website is active but not fully operational yet, but booking can be made via dedicated sites such as Booking.com.

Apart from rooms and suites, the new hotel features 10 conference halls and seminar rooms that can take up to 1,000 visitors, as well as a bar and a restaurant, a gym and an underground car park with 120 spaces.

A few years ago Zlatarna Celje built Hotel Plaza Ljubljana at the BTC City commercial district, which in 2015 passed under the Radisson Blu brand and was renamed Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel Ljubljana.
