Sport

Munich - Slovenia's Tina Šutej won bronze in the pole vault at the European Athletics Championships on Wednesday, finishing with a height of 4.75 metres, close to her personal best of 4.76 metres in outdoor competitions.

The 33-year-old cleared all heights in the first try up until the 4.70 mark and then mustered 4.75 metres in the first attempt as well.

The next height, 4.80 metres, proved too much, even though she came very close in her final attempt.

Šutej performed with a light injury that she sustained during the warm-up and competed with a bandaged hand.

Finland's Wilma Murto won the event with a championship best of 4.85 metres ahead of world champion Aikaterini Stefanidi of Greece.

Šutej's is the ninth medal for Slovenia at European Athletics Championships and the first after 2016.
