Ljubljana - A total of 2,591 cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Slovenia on Tuesday, more than a third more than a week earlier, which may be attributed to reduced testing on public holiday on Monday. One patient died, Health Ministry data shows.

A total of 84 patients were hospitalised with Covid as their main condition, one fewer than on Monday, and another nine were in intensive care, flat from the day before.

The overall number of hospitalised patients infected with coronavirus reached 252, one fewer than on Monday.

The 14-day case notification rate per 100,000 of the population saw a daily rise of 41 to 887 and the 7-day case average increased by 130 to 1,248.

There are now some 18,760 active cases in the country, data from the National Institute of Public Health shows.
