The two officials spoke about cultural heritage, Scotland's experience with maintenance, renovation and giving new content to castles, youth culture, and the European Capital of Culture, the title held this year by Maribor, according to a press release from the Education Ministry.

Hyslop was also interested in Slovenia's transition to independence in 1991, where Turk highlighted the important role of culture. Moreover, the Scottish minister accepted Turk's invitation to visit Slovenia.

The meeting came after the Edinburgh International Culture Summit, which Hyslop hosted on 13 and 14 August.

In the discussion on cultural diplomacy at the summit, Turk underlined good experience in cooperation of once hostile countries within the Council of Ministers of Culture of South East Europe.

Also at the conference, the minister highlighted the role of culture as a key part of the economy, where the meaning of the product exceeds its mere practical value.

Information, knowledge and meaning are crucial products of modern economy, brought about especially by innovation and creativity, he said.
