Ljubljana - A total of 2,461 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Slovenia from Friday to Sunday, a decline of about 200 cases compared to the same period a week ago, the latest data by the Health Ministry show. Twelve Covid-19 patients died in the three-day period.

Infection figures fell from 1,681 to 1,549 on Friday in weekly comparison, from 549 to 537 on Saturday and from 434 to 375 on Sunday.

On Sunday, 75 patients were treated in hospitals for Covid-19 as their main condition, among them eleven in intensive care, which compares to 94 and eight, respectively, a week ago.

According to National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) data, the 14-day case notification rate per 100,000 people has fallen by seven in the last day to 890.

The institute estimates there are currently 18,823 active cases in the country, down by 124 compared to a day ago and up by 123 compared to the same day a week ago.

Since the start of the epidemic in March 2020, almost 8,130 people infected with coronavirus died, shows data from NIJZ, which includes among Covid deaths those in people who were infected 28 days before the death occurred.

Pharmacies have meanwhile recorded a rekindled interest in coronavirus self-testing kits, which are available free of charge for school children from primary school to university from today.

The Ljubljana chain of pharmacies, Lekarna Ljubljana, told the STA that individual pharmacies issued 200 to 500 kits this morning, while pharmacies in other parts of the country have not noticed more demand.

Self-testing will take place at home at a voluntary basis.
