Nearly 44% of adults aged 25-34 were studying in 2010, while only 26% of those between 50 and 64 years chose to take part in educational programmes.

Compared to a similar survey conducted in 2007, the share of the adults who educate themselves has dropped slightly, particularly in terms of formal education. According to SURS, this is most probably due to the recent reform of the higher education introducing shorter university courses.

An important factor in deciding to continue studies is the level of the achieved education. Adults with a degree still tend to continue studying (nearly 67%), while with those with a completed primary or secondary school this is most often not the case (10%).

The survey included 8500 adults.
