Catholic Church, Muslim community underline need for cooperation
Ljubljana - The Catholic Church and the Muslim community have concluded this week a two-year cooperation project which saw inter-religious dialogue and collaboration between priests and imams. They agreed to continue their cooperation also in the future to nurture good dialogue.
The Islamic community said in a press release that the end of the project was marked with an event at the Muslim Cultural Centre in Ljubljana.
Mari Jože Osredkar of the Ljubljana Theology Faculty expressed belief in his address that the project would contribute to better understanding between Muslims and Catholics in Slovenia, above all on the local level.
He underlined that this was a process which was barely starting and that cooperation on the local level would depend on priests and imams.
Mufti Navzet Porić meanwhile underlined the need for mutual respect, saying the Muslim community was in good relations with the Catholic Church, as well as all other religious communities.
As an example of good cooperation he pointed to the Catholic Church's help with the construction of the Ljubljana mosque.
