Workers at gaming company Hit go on strike

Nova Gorica - Workers at gaming company Hit have announced they are staring a strike at 5pm today after talks with the management, which have been under way since Tuesday, have failed.

The strike, which will be held only on the weekends, starts at the Drive-in casino in Vrtojba at 5pm, with others units following at 6pm, to be on strike until 2am, Hit said.

A strike of a similar scale has also been announced for Saturday and Sunday and all the weekends until the end of the year.

The talks on strike demands are expected to continue next Tuesday.

"The employer presented the representatives of the trade union with a strike-averting proposal today. The Trade Union of Gaming Workers studied the proposal and accepted it, while also setting additional demands and conditions to the management.

"Moreover, the union gave an ultimatum of being ready to suspend the strike until the end of November, which the Hit management finds unacceptable, as it means only delaying strike activities," the office of Hit CEO said.

The trade union accuses the management of misguided investments and business decisions, of lowering the value of the company, and manipulation in the communication with the staff and the public.

The trade union has set 18 demands to the management, including a call for its resignation.

The management, which denies all the allegations, estimates that the strike demands are worth EUR 10 million annually and would raise labour costs by 20%.

The staff at Hit's units Korona, Resort & Entertainment in Kranjska Gora and Casinò Fontana in Rogaška Slatina have not joined the strike.
