Maribor - A minor severely injured a peer with a sharp object in the city of Maribor late on Friday evening and the wounded kid is now fighting for his life in hospital, the Maribor Police Department said on Saturday.

The suspect fled from the scene of the attack, which happened around 11:30pm, but later turned himself in to the police, accompanied by his parents.

He was taken into custody for 48 hours while police officers are trying to determine the motive for the crime and identify what sharp object he used.

Both the attacker and the victim are from the Maribor area.

Police and criminal investigators are continuing the investigation into the crime of causing severe bodily harm.

Since the attacker and the victim are below the age of 18, police cannot reveal any other details at this stage of the investigation.

However, the Večer newspaper reports online, citing unofficial information, that the attacker stabbed the teenager with a knife at least seven times at the park in the area of the alternative culture centre Pekarna where blood stains can still be seen.

The victim, who took refuge at one of the clubs, where security staff called an ambulance, is said to have sustained injuries to internal organs, the face and the back.
