Logar in lead of presidential race in Valicon poll

Ljubljana - The most recent public opinion poll by Valicon, commissioned by the public broadcaster RTV Slovenija, shows Democrat (SDS) MP Anže Logar leading the presidential race with 21.5%, followed by lawyer Nataša Pirc Musar with 19.7% and MEP Milan Brglez with 12.1%. Pirc Musar would win a potential second round against either rival.

In a potential second round between Pirc Musar and Logar, the former would win 40.7%, while Logar would get 33.9%. Pirc Musar would also win a potential second round against Brglez, winning with 33.7% against Brglez's 29.4%. A run-off between Brglez and Logar would see the latter win the election with 37% against 32%.

Three weeks before the election, other candidates polled much lower than the three front-runners. Gynaecologist Sabina Senčar got 4.2%, New Slovenia (NSi) MP Janez Cigler Kralj got 3.8%, followed by the Left MP Miha Kordiš with 3.7%.

Lower still are Kočevje Mayor Vladimir Prebilič (3.4%) and musician Gregor Bezenšek (2.6%).

Out of 1,547 respondents in the online survey about the presidential election, 15,7% were undecided, while nearly 9% said they would not go to the polls. The poll was carried out on 29 and 30 September.

The pollster also asked respondents about their support for political parties, with 27.6% saying they would vote for the Freedom Movement if a general election was held yesterday. The SDS would get the votes of 18.2% of respondents, followed by the Left with 6.7%, NSi with 5.7% and the Social Democrats (SD) with 5.3%).

The survey also examined the public's opinion about some of the government's decisions. The country's withdrawal from the purchase of boxer military vehicles is supported or strongly supported by 41.4% of respondents, 18.8% said they neither supported nor opposed it, while 30.2% said they do not support it or do not support it at all.

The food price comparison campaign is supported or strongly supported by a combined 49.9%, while 21.8% do not support or oppose it, while a combined 24.6% do not support it or not support it at all.

Meanwhile, the petrol price regulation has the strong support of 47.9% of the respondents, while 24.7% said they supported it. Just over 10% said they neither supported nor opposed it, and 4.6% said they do not support it, while 10.2% said they do not support it at all.

The second set of questions about parties and government measures was answered online by 1,533 respondents between 26 and 28 September.
