Telekom Slovenije reports surge in cyberattacks

Business

Telekom Slovenije, Slovenia's largest telecommunications provider, dealt with 22% more cyberattacks in the past year than the year before, when it detected a record number of such attacks.

Cyberattacks targeting individuals and companies of all sizes increased with the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the company said in Monday's press release marking European Cybersecurity Month.

The most frequent causes of security incidents are malware such as worms and Trojan horses, and ransomware that is most often imposed on the victim by means of phishing or exploiting a software vulnerability.

In terms of frequency, those are followed by denial-of-service attacks and data loss, disclosure or theft.

The Telekom Slovenije cybersecurity operative centre has also been registering a substantial increase in abuse or attempts to abuse registration data such as passwords, personal data and payment card data, and an increasing number of external or internal network scanning.
