Dončić rewriting NBA history
Dallas, 3 November - Slovenia's basketball superstar Luka Dončić scored 33 points for the Dallas Mavericks' 103-100 victory over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday, which makes him only a third player in NBA history to score 30 points or more in the first seven games into the season. The last player accomplished the feat 60 years ago.
Dončić's season opening scoring streak is the first such after Wilt Chamberlain last made the achievement in the 1962-63 season and after both him and Jack Twyman brought off the impressive feat in 1959-60, according to US sports media reports.
"I don't know. I'm trying to win games. Whoever scores more, you're going to win the games," Dončić said for Dallas News.
Dončić also had 11 assists, marking his fourth 30-point, 10-assist performance this season, according to ESPN.
"I think it's special when you talk about M.J. and Wilt," said Jason Kidd, the Mavericks' head coach. "It's rare air. We get to see that on a nightly basis, so that's pretty cool. A 23-year-old kid that's at this level."
"It just shows the focus that he has. He's carrying the team and putting the team in position to win," Kidd added as quoted by several US media.
