Drought Damage Estimated at EUR 128M


According to law, if damage caused by natural phenomena exceeds 0.03% of the national budget (EUR 2.4m), the government can declare it a natural disaster and release emergency budget funds.

The western Primorsko region, which traditionally gets the least rain, was hit the hardest. Damage there is estimated at EUR 35m, the Nova Gorica chamber told the STA on Tuesday.

Agriculture in easternmost Pomurje region, the prime grain production region in the country, is estimated to have incurred crop losses of EUR 21m as thousands of hectares of corn fields have been decimated.
