The skiing season is getting under way in earnest in Slovenia after some slopes opened for a late November skiing weekend. Fresh snow is expected as well and temperatures are set to drop.

The high-altitude resort of Vogel, above Lake Bohinj, and Kope and Pohorje on the opposite ends of the Pohorje range opened for the season on 9 December, though only certain ski lifts will initially operate.

Marprom, the company that runs the Pohorje ski resort, promised it would do their best to ensure a quality experience. "We will try to prepare as many slopes as possible but we will be rational with energy use for snow-making, as we have been in the past seasons," the company said.

Krvavec, the ski resort that is nearest to the capital Ljubljana, is launching its skiing season on 10 December with a skiing party and a free skiing school for children.

Rogla, another resort in the Pohorje range, is opening on 12 December, while Kranjska Gora is scheduled to open on 17 December, and Kanin and Golte on 23 December.

Kanin, Slovenia's highest ski resort, which only relies on natural snow, hopes for a normal season this year after two years of Covid on top of a green winter. They will once again connect their slopes with the Italian ski resort Sella Nevea.

Due to soaring energy prices most ski resorts have raised prices of ski passes. Pohorje opted for a 20% hike and Rogla increased their prices by 8%, both to €39 for a day pass without discounts on weekdays.

Vogel and Krvavec only made minor adjustments to their prices so they are now on a par with those on Pohorje, at €40 for a day pass at Vogel and €39 at Krvavec. Kanin will keep the rates from last winter, which means €33 for a day pass.
