Slovenia among the world's top tourist destinations
Slovenia has often ranked high in various international selections of top tourist destinations and this year is no different. Ljubljana, Bohinj and Kranjska Gora have caught the interest of reviewers this time.
Rough Guides, one of the world's largest publishers of tour guides, has put Ljubljana on its list of the best travel destinations for 2023. It describes the Slovenian capital as green and clean with an abundance of scenic charm.
"Caressing the Ljubljanica river and overlooked by a castle, cities don't come much more picturesque. What's more, Ljubljana has the EU's biggest pedestrianised area, plenty of parks to stroll in, and is a beautiful base from which to visit a host of Slovenian attractions," it says.
French newspaper Le Monde has put Lake Bohinj in the Julian Alps at the top of its list of its twenty best destinations for 2023. The lake is described as "one of those landscapes that you don't forget".
"In the summer, pretty, golden, shady beaches dotted with rocks welcome bathers who dive into the clear, fresh water. In autumn, the shores are brightly coloured; winter mornings cover the branches with a layer of ice, and sometimes the ground is covered with snow. In spring, the young leaves give the trees a soft green touch."
Forbes, an American portal, highlights Slovenia as the perfect winter destination in its list of places where people can travel responsibly in 2023.
"Winters in Slovenia are magical, away from city lights, embraced by soaring, snowcapped peaks warmed up by the scent of mulled wine," it says.
There is also a Slovenian entry on Forbes's list of offbeat places to stay in 2023, Hotel Milka in Kranjska Gora. It says the owners, a team of local young professionals, took the whole project as an opportunity to create and share the finest encounter with Slovenian cuisine and culture.
