Slovenia will also discontinue its embassy in Helsinki on 15 October and the one in Dublin on 31 October. The consulate general in New York will also close down then.

While the cost is estimated at EUR 250,000, the closures of the mentioned missions are to bring in EUR 1.8m in annual savings.

The embassy in The Hague in the Netherlands will be concurrently accredited to Portugal, while responsibility for Morocco will be taken over by the embassy in Paris. The responsibilities of the consulate in Düsseldorf will be assumed by the embassy in Berlin.

At the same time, the Slovenian government has decided to open a consulate in Germany's Potsdam. Mark Christopher Donfried, a visiting professor of American studies at Berlin's Humboldt University, was named the honorary consul on Thursday.

Apart from having an embassy in Berlin, Slovenia also operates a consulate general in Munich and consulates run by honorary consuls in Bad Soden, Hamburg and Dresden.
