The great outdoors beckons in Bovec
The Bovec Outdoor Film Festival, held in Slovenia's hotspot of adrenaline sports in the Soča Valley, will feature 30 films and several talks between 27 and 30 December.
Screenings taking place in the Bovec Community Centre include films on skiing, snowboarding and Alpine climbing, as well as films with a social and environmental note.
Some of the highlights include Aurélien Ducroz, a Life on the Top about the French free rider, and Tracing Influence, which connects the stories of six skiers and the people who inspired their lives.
The Slovenian film The Apparitions of Trieste, Words and Wind in the Life of Dušan Jelinčič meanwhile explores the literary works of possibly the most widely acclaimed Slovenian writer among mountain climbers.
The festival will be accompanied by a photography exhibition marking the 40th anniversary of the Triglav National Park act and the 60th anniversary of the first measures to protect a part of the Julian Alps in Slovenia as a national park.
The exhibition on display in the centre of Bovec features 39 black and white photographs by the "poet of mountain photography" Jaka Čop and as many modern, coloured photographs with the same motifs.
