Šušteršič announced on Wednesday that the cabinet would get acquainted with the proposal for the 2013 budget, whose deficit will remain bellow 3% of GDP despite of downgraded growth forecasts.

He added that the budget deficit would thus be in line with the promises given to the EU.

The government already debated two drafts of the budgets for 2013 and 2014 in August, rejecting them and tasking the Finance Ministry with drawing up a new proposal.

Šušterišič said last week that the government would also take into account "the financial effects of the reforms that have been proposed and need to be adopted before the end of the year". The budget proposal needs to be sent to parliament by 1 October.

Also potentially on the agenda is a draft bill on the restructuring of troubled banks, with unofficial information suggesting that a planned fund for the stability of banks would deal not only with bad claims.

The fund would also deal with the economy in general, meaning it could manage state shares in a number of companies.
