A documentary exhibition marking the 150th birth anniversary of Gustav Klimt and a photo exhibition on the destruction and restoration of the landmark Mostar bridge in Bosnia-Herzegovina will also open today.

The exhibitions mark the start of a month-long programme of Austrian-themed events as part of the Cultural Embassies under the banner of the European Capital of Culture.

On Thursday a day-long arts project dubbed "Drau/Drava - KlangMobil" will be held on the banks of the River Drava celebrating the long history of cooperation of artists from the Drava basin.

On Saturday film makers plan to shoot a single sequence on 54 km airplane flight between Graz and Maribor, connecting the former and the current European Capital of Culture.

The film will be on show in Maribor between 19 October and 4 November.

Austrian writer Robert Musil will be in the focus of a symposium on 11 and 12 October, while German-language crime serials will be on show between 17 and 20 October at the Kino Udarnik cinema.

Austria will also be featured in Ptuj, one of Maribor's partner cities, as an exhibition of Oskar Kokoschka, one of the most important 20th century artists in Europe, will be on display from 19 October.
