Joker Out will compete for Slovenia in this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool with a catchy dance tune Carpe Diem. The song was released on TV Slovenija on 4 February along with the video, which can be seen here.

The immenesey popular five-member band from Ljubljana recorded the song in a studio in Hamburg, Germany, with Slovenian producer Žare Pak. They shot the video in Ljubljana.

The lyrics are in Slovenian with the refrain saying "we'll dance all night, we'll make love and play, like there's no tomorrow. Don't count on us for your hate games".

Appearing on the TV show Mission Liverpool, the band said this was their most Eurovision-like song to date. Performing at the Eurovision Song Contest will make their childhood dream come true.

Host Miša Molk, a Eurosong veteran, said that Joker Out was the best selling Slovenian band of 2022. All their concerts are sold out.

It was their "quality, ambition and catching easygoingness" that prompted TV Slovenija to pick the band as Slovenia's 2023 Eurosong entrant.

This is only the second time that the public broadcaster invited a band of its choice to be the country's representative at the contest.

Joker Out will appear in the semi-final on 11 May, hoping to make it to the grand final on 13 May.

Slovenia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 27 times since its debut as an independent country in 1993. It has never won the contest, and the best result for Slovenia is two 7th place finishes in 1995 and 2001.

Since the introduction of the semi-finals in 2004, Slovenia has only managed to qualify for the grand final six times out of 18.
