The new season of Ljubljana's hugely popular outdoor food market known as Open Kitchen starts on 17 March, featuring more than 50 stalls serving both traditional Slovenian cuisine and foreign culinary delights.

For the 11th year running, visitors will be able to treat their taste buds in Pogačar Square next to Ljubljana's central market every Friday between 10am and 9pm.

More than 60 different establishments have confirmed their participation in the new season of Open Kitchen, including ten newcomers. Pekarna Ana, the bakery of Michelin star chef Ana Roš, is one of them.

"We strive to put together a tasty mix of world cuisines, street food favourites and traditional dishes from all over Slovenia, spicing it up with a dash of trends and innovations," event co-founder Lior Kochavy said ahead of the opening.

The organizers are committed to pursuing green goals and are focused on sustainability, highlighting the use of biodegradable single-use cutlery and recycling.

"We omitted all plastic products years ago and we urge our partners to adopt sustainable approaches to cooking by using local, seasonal ingredients and creating as little waste as possible," they said.

All foodies have been invited to come by foot or bike, or use public transport.

In cooperation with the Slovenian Philanthropy, each week food surpluses will be donated to families in need.
