Slovenia's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs was targeted by a cyberattack on 7 April. It said appropriate security protocols had been launched while the scale of the attack was still being assessed.

The ministry told the STA they had detected the attack together with partners. The staff continue to work as normal.

A spokesperson told the news portal 24ur.com that the foreign ministries of multiple countries had been targetted.

The portal described the attack as "severe" but did not provide additional details.

Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon told the portal that the attack had been launched from a third country, adding that it seemed that it "has been going on for quite some time". The targets have been foreign ministries and diplomatic networks of most EU countries, she said.

There is no connection between the attack and Slovenia's bid for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council in 2024-2025, she added.
