President Türk starts campaign: "For the Common Good"

Türk, who is seeking his second term in the 11 November election, said his slogan was about human rights for everyone, fairness and solidarity, dialogue and support for creativity and entrepreneurial initiative.

The deputy head of Türk's campaign office, political philosopher Igor Pribac, announced a programme stressing the president's role in the stabilisation of the political situation and the encouraging of dialogue.

He said Türk's camp would not be aggressive and would not use "inappropriate low punches".

As regards criticism coming from some rival candidates, Türk said that he had gotten used to unfair and uncivilised criticism. He rejected claims that he opposes the government's reforms, saying he was a strong supporter of the pension and labour reforms.

Commenting on claims by SocDems president Igor Lukšič that "the old left" is gathering behind Türk, the president said the structure of his supporters was very diverse, including different voters as well as coalition, opposition and non-parliamentary parties.
